Tsinjorano Contest

The Tsinjorano Competition 2026 is a national initiative dedicated to techniques, practices, and innovations that improve irrigation efficiency and agricultural water management in Madagascar.

The competition is open to farmers, young farmers, farmer groups, cooperatives, NGOs, researchers, agricultural technicians, and other actors based in Madagascar. Submitted solutions must be already in use in Madagascar or currently being tested in the field, and must address a concrete irrigation or water-management challenge on farms ranging from 0.1 to 2 hectares.

Solutions may cover areas such as rainwater harvesting, water retention and storage, soil and water conservation, pumping, irrigation and efficient water distribution, as well as other relevant innovations. The objective is to identify and showcase practical, affordable, replicable solutions adapted to local realities.

📸 Submission: 1 to 5 mandatory photos showing the solution in real-life conditions

Solutions are assessed according to several criteria, including innovation and creativity, effectiveness and efficiency, cost and maintenance, robustness and sustainability, and potential for replication and scaling. The final assessment combines a five-member jury (60%) and public voting (40%).

Beyond the competition itself, Tsinjorano aims to create a long-term library of innovative irrigation solutions. The experiences collected through the competition will remain accessible so that they can continue to be consulted, shared, adapted, and potentially replicated in other regions and agricultural contexts.
