Digitalization is opening a new chapter in development. Artificial intelligence, data, digital platforms, drones, remote sensing, automation and collaborative technologies can dramatically expand access to information, education, research, markets and decision-making tools.

For countries such as Madagascar, these technologies also offer the possibility of leapfrogging certain stages of traditional development.

However, the digital divide remains significant. In 2024, only around 19% of Madagascar’s population was using the Internet, while globally approximately 2.6 billion people remained offline, according to the International Telecommunication Union.

FTA wants to explore and promote the power of digital technologies and AI as development tools: smart agriculture, education, research, organizational management, mapping, entrepreneurship, knowledge dissemination and decision support.

The challenge is twofold: ensuring that digital transformation is inclusive, while turning powerful technologies into tangible benefits for people and communities.

FTA is aware that AI and digitalization can also create new inequalities and dependencies. Its ambition is therefore to promote useful, accessible, responsible and inclusive digital transformation, while preparing younger generations not simply to consume technology, but to understand it, adapt it, create with it and use it to shape their own future.
